Get ready!

Great sewing starts with great prep. For the Hinterland Dress Sew-along, complete Step 1: Pattern (purchase and review the Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress), Step 2: Print (print, tape, and trace your size), and Step 3: Fabric (choose what you love and gather supplies).

Our sewalong kicks off on February 27! 🧵

  • 1: Pattern

Purchase the Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress and spend a little time getting to know it.

  • 2: Print

Print at home and tape the pages together, or send it to a copy shop - we recommend Maker's Print Shop, in Guelph.

  • 3: Fabric

Choose your fabric and gather the required notions. The Hinterland shines in light to medium weight woven fabrics like linen, cotton, or blends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sewalong?

We'll make the same pattern at the same time, with guidance each week so you always know what comes next.

Instead of staring at instructions and wondering if you’re doing it right, you’ll have direction, demonstrations, encouragement and a group of people working alongside you!

You’re sewing at home, but you’re part of something bigger.

Do I need to be an experienced garment sewist?

Nope! If you can thread your machine and sew a reasonably straight seam, you are ready. We break the project into manageable steps and explain the parts that typically feel intimidating.

What if I’ve never made a dress before?

Perfect. This is a wonderful first garment because you’ll have guidance, structure, and a community sewing alongside you. You're not alone!

How much time should I plan each week?

This will vary, but a good ballpark is 2-4 hours per week. Enough time to set up and sink into the project.

Where do I buy the pattern?

You can purchase the Hinterland Dress pattern directly from Sew Liberated.

What if I get stuck?

Post your question and tag us on Instagram, or reply to the weekly email. We’ll help you troubleshoot!

Why is this free?

Because we love building confidence! Through sewing, or otherwise. This is a supportive community and we want to see you succeed and discover (re-discover, hone, etc.) a hobby you love.

Why we love teaching Soft Circuits...

Soft circuits are one of our favourite ways to help kids discover that science is not only understandable, it is creative, playful, and full of possibility. They blend art, design, problem-solving, and science in a way that feels natural, playful, and deeply engaging.

Instead of memorizing how circuits work, students build them. They plan their layouts, troubleshoot stitches, test ideas, and learn how electricity flows through a circuit by seeing their own projects light up.
